A new education center is now open in our state capitol
More than 60,000 students who arrive at the Capitol on school buses each year now have a new Education Center.
First Lady Jane Beshear said the building was formerly a heating and cooling facility that has been turned into a learning center where visitors also can eat lunch and relax.
The center, adjacent to the Capitol building, was designed with energy efficiency in mind. Beshear said the building is insulated with recycled denim and features a viewing platform on the roof with solar panels, a wind turbine and a rooftop garden.
"Eco-screens" inside the Center display how much energy the facility is using in real time and how much energy the building's solar panels are creating.
