Federal charges have been filed against a man who had plans to run for Johnson County sheriff

A man who had hopes of being the next Johnson County sheriff is now facing federal drug charges.

John T. Kline has been charged with carrying a firearm, during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime and distribution of a controlled substance. Q95 News has learned that local charges against Kline have been dropped, and the case is now in the hands of federal investigators.

The criminal complaint alleged that Kline told a confidential informant that he was "one of the largest pill dealers in Johnson County." Kline had originally been arrested after police say he allegedly sold 100 prescription pain pills to undercover deputies.

Kline had been under investigation for more than 18 months by the Johnson County sheriffs office.
