A Stabbing Suspect Has Claimed Self Defense

A stabbing suspect says an argument over a stolen hat led to a stabbing that happened in Perry County Saturday afternoon.

19 year-old Jonathan Stewart says he went to the home on Noble Mountain Drive to smooth things over.

Stewart told WYMT that he was just going to talk to them about getting a hat back. But what started as a verbal argument between Stewart and Steven Sizemore, soon turned physical.

Stewart says he picked up a knife from the ditch to defend himself.

Police say Stewart ran from the home after Sizemore was stabbed.

Officers found him not far away and arrested him on assault charges, but he claims it was only in self defense.

Stewart says he now regrets going to the home in the first place, saying, “I wish I had never went up there.”

Sizemore is in the hospital in stable condition. Officials say he should be released before Monday morning.A Stabbing Suspect Has Claimed Self Defense
