Powerball Jackpot Soars To $550 Million
The Powerball jackpot for tomorrow’s drawing has soared. The Multi-State Lottery Association said yesterday the jackpot climbed to $550 million thanks to a nationwide surge in sales. Before the increase, the advertised jackpot was $475 million. The cash value of the May 18th jackpot is $350.1 million. The jackpot was last hit March 30th. The largest Powerball jackpot ever won is $587.5 million in November, which was split between two winning tickets. Sales are highest the day of the drawing, and lottery officials expect peak sales today as people stop to pick up a ticket on their way home from work and all day tomorrow as people are out and about running errands. Meanwhile, the Mega Millions’ grand prize, at $190 million, could also climb higher before today’s drawing.
