Attorneys for Gary Ward seek further bond reduction in an eastern Kentucky murder case
A Johnson County man charged with murder in connection with the death of Christina Barnett, was back in court today in Knott County. Gary Wayne Ward is facing charges of murder, abuse of a corpse and tampering with physical evidence in connection with the death of Barnett, whose body was found along Route 80 in Knott County last September. Ward's attorney presented a letter from a medical field expert in court in which the expert said he felt that Barnett died of a drug overdose and that because of that, the current bond should be lowered. Prosecuting attorneys objected to the motion, saying they had a report from the medical examiner in the case that contradicted the defense attorney claims. The judge in the case had initially set the bond for Ward at 500,000 cash and had since allowed the bond to be lowered to 300,000 cash according to Barnett's family members. The judge told attorneys she would take the new motion to further lower the bond under consideration. A pre-trial conference in the case has been set for June 23rd. in Knott County Circuit Court.
