The cost of a first class stamp increased to 49 cents on Sunday
The cost of a first class stamp increased to 49 cents on Sunday. The price increase was approved in December. The new cost is a 3 cent increase from the previous 46 cents. The postal service lost five billion last year and has been trying to persuade Congress to let it end Saturday mail delivery, as well as reduce payments on retiree health benefits. The last increase for the price of a stamp was a year ago, when the cost rose by a penny from 45 to 46 cents.
