A Kentucky Senate Committee has approved an ATV helmet bill

A Kentucky Senate Committee has given approval to a bill that would expand the instances allowing operators of ATVS to not require the use of a helmet. Under the proposal, the helmet requirement would not apply when ATV riders cross roads with speeds of 55 mph or less. The Director of the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety opposes the bill for "safety reasons", Kentucky had 12 ATV-related fatalities on roadways in 2013. Kentucky state law allows ATV operators 16 and older to ride without helmets on private property.
