Stapleton proposing city business "comeback" program

Current Prestonsburg City Council member Les Stapleton unveiled a proposal at the most recent Prestonsburg City Council meeting that he says will bring additional money into the city by giving shoppers incentive for return visits. The Floyd County Times is reporting that Stapleton's plan is an effort that would see customers who make purchases from participating businesses be able to take their receipts to city hall, where they could receive an undetermined percentage of thier purchase back in the form of "Comeback Bucks". The comeback bucks could then be spent just like money in participating businesses in the city. Stapleton said he believes the program would "jump start" shopping in the city and attract new business. Stapleton proposed giving the program a two-month trial period by committing 15,000 for the trial. Other council members said the program could make a positive impact, but no action was taken on the proposal as members said they needed more time to iron out details of the project.
