New jobs could be coming to Floyd County

Kentucky House Speaker Greg Stumbo has a plan that could bring more jobs to Floyd County. Stumbo is moving forward with a plan that would re-open the Otter Creek Prison in Wheelwright. The plan would move at least one hundred elderly inmates into a the idle prison and in the process would create new jobs for the area. The Otter Creek Correctional Center closed its doors in 2012, putting nearly 170 people out of work. Stumbo stated that the "program aims to move these older prisoners to a facility that would be better equipped to handle their care and that would allow prisons to better fulfill their mission". Stumbo also noted that the approach would make the individuals eligible for Medicaid, which would take away much of the burden on Kentucky taxpayers.
