Morehead State's volleyball program accumulated more impressive numbers on their way to another OVC championship against hosts EKU. Led by impressive performances by freshmen Alex Fuelling and Colbey Cameron, junior Ellie Roberson, and redshirt Emma Keough, the Eagles toppled EKU for the 12th consecutive match between the two. The 2011 OVC title is now theirs, after a 20-6 season (15-1 in the OVC).
For the first three sets, EKU came out swinging, eking out substantial leads. They won the first nail-biter set 25-27, and looked poised to repeat in the second, but the Eagles rallied to win it 25-22. In the third, MSU again overcame an EKU advantage to win 25-20, and dominated the fourth 25-16 despite a late charge by EKU.
They hope to parlay the momentum from the 3-1 win into similar efforts this weekend, starting against Southeast Missouri at 7 p.m. Friday.
Cards roll over Bears 74-55
The UPike Bears fought tooth and nail, but ultimately came up short against U of L in the season-opening exhibition at KFC Yum! Center. Louisville hit a disappointing 41.2% overall, but it was enough to trump the Bears, who struggled all night and hit only 29.2%. The Cardinals took a commanding 16-0 lead in the first half and never looked back, though the Bears cut it down to as little as six. In the second, that lead was never less than 11 points, and the final score: 74-55.
The Cardinals' regular season begins with a Nov. 11 home game against Tennessee-Martin, and UPike's kicks off at home Saturday against Union College.
Allen Central reclaims the regional volleyball championship
The Allen Central Lady Rebels earned some serious vindication at the 15th Region volleyball tournament, winning their second regional title in three years. In two consecutive sets, they dispatched the Raiders 25-18 and 25-21 to go 2-0 and clinch.
Katie Kendrick racked up the numbers to lead the Rebels to victory: 14 kills, 6 blocks, an assist and a dig.
They head now to Louisville to face 13th Region champs Corbin in the opening round of the state competition.

The Betsy Lane Bobcats are entering uncharted territory: they are undefeated through their first three games. Hoping to extend that streak, Coach Parsons looks to what got them off to a running 3-0 start to begin with: analyzing, preparing, and attacking not just one game at a time, but one play at a time. Joining together in what he calls "Bobcat Brotherhood" and giving it everything they have, every time they line up. Betsy Lane will host the 0-3 Knott County Central Patriots this Friday.

University of Pikeville has introduced its first Lacrosse coach. Amongst her career highlights, Erica Erb says, is a goal she once scored against the Lacrosse powerhouse from the University of North Carolina. Hopefully, she’ll add many things to that during her tenure as the first Lacrosse sport in University of Pikeville history. A native of Boyertown, Penn., Erb realized her dream of playing Division I Lacrosse when she signed on at Old Dominion University. She is also a veteran youth official and referee of both girls’ and boys’ Lacrosse. UPike will play its first season of Lacrosse in the Spring of 2013.
