Cats set to take on Cards in NCAA Sweet Sixteen

Kentucky is set to return to action on Friday, in the regional semi-final round of the NCAA tournament. UK will take on in state rival Louisville in Indianapolis at approximately 9:45 pm. The game will air on CBS with Jim Nantz, Greg Anthony and Tracy Wolfson handling the play by play and color.

Julius Randle named to All-American team

Freshman Julius Randle has been honored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Randle is one of three freshmen to earn All-America honors by the NABC. Randle was selected to the third-team in voting by member coaches of the NABC. Randle leads the nation with 22 double-doubles on the season. He leads the team in scoring average and rebounds.

Kentucky stays alive with win over Wichita State

The Harrison twins came alive at the best possible time on Sunday, as Kentucky rallied from a 9 point second half deficit to beat previously unbeaten Wichita State 78-76. Kentucky was led in scoring by Andrew Harrison with 20 points. Aaron Harrison added 19 and Julius Randle tossed in 13. Cleanthony Early led Wichita State with a game high 31 points. Kentucky improved to 26-10 with the win Wichita State ended the season at 35-1. Kentucky will take in Louisville in the Sweet Sixteen on Friday. Tipoff is scheduled for 9:45 pm.

Kentucky a # 8 seed in NCAA tournament

Kentucky will open play in the NCAA tournament on Friday. The Cats enter as a number eight seed and will take on number nine seed Kansas State at approximately 9:40 pm. The game will be televised live on CBS. Kentucky enters the tournament with an overall record of 24-10. Kansas State comes into the tournament with an overall record of 20-12. The Kentucky-Kansas State winner will likely face off with top seeded Wichita State on Sunday.

Cats rally but fall short in SEC title game

The Kentucky Wildcats rallied from 16 down in the second half on Sunday, but ended up falling one point shy against the Florida Gators in the SEC championship game. Willie Cauley Stein finished with a double,double in the loss, scoring 10 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Kentucky trailed by 15 with just over 12 minutes left in the game. The cats had a chance to win in the last possession, but James Young slipped on a drive to the basket and time expired as Florida claimed the SEC title by a final of 61-60.

Cats set to open SEC tourney tonight in Atlanta

Kentucky will open SEC tournament play tonight, taking on LSU at 7:00 pm in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. LSU advanced to the quarterfinal round with a 68-56 win over Alabama on Thursday. Kentucky enters the tournament as the number two seed behind number one seed Florida. Kentucky is expected to make the NCAA tournament field regardless of the outcome of this weeks SEC tournament. LSU would likely need to advance to the finals or win the tournament to make the NCAA field. Tipoff tonight is set for 7 pm.

Gators roll past Cats 84-65

Patric Young scored 18 points as No. 1 Florida rolled past Kentucky 84-65 on Saturday. Julius Randle led Kentucky with 16 points and 10 rebounds. With the win, Florida finished the SEC portion of the schedule with a perfect 18-0 record. The Gators improved to 29-2 overall and 18-0 in the SEC. Kentucky ended the regular season with a 22-9 overall record. The cats finished SEC play at 12-6. Kentucky will play in the quarterfinal round of the SEC tournament on Friday evening in Atlanta.

Cats hold off Tide on Senior Night at Rupp

March 5, 2014

Julius Randle finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds as No 25 Kentucky held off Alabama 55-48 on Tuesday. Kentucky used a 15-2 second half run to build a 43-34 lead. Kentucky avoided its first three game losing streak under John Calipari and also clinched the two seed in next week's SEC tournament. With the win, Kentucky improved to 22-8 overall and 12-5 in the SEC. Alabama fell to 12-18 and 6-11 in the SEC. Kentucky will wrap up the regular season on the road at number one Florida on Saturday.
