Kentucky a # 8 seed in NCAA tournament

Kentucky will open play in the NCAA tournament on Friday. The Cats enter as a number eight seed and will take on number nine seed Kansas State at approximately 9:40 pm. The game will be televised live on CBS. Kentucky enters the tournament with an overall record of 24-10. Kansas State comes into the tournament with an overall record of 20-12. The Kentucky-Kansas State winner will likely face off with top seeded Wichita State on Sunday.

Cats rally but fall short in SEC title game

The Kentucky Wildcats rallied from 16 down in the second half on Sunday, but ended up falling one point shy against the Florida Gators in the SEC championship game. Willie Cauley Stein finished with a double,double in the loss, scoring 10 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Kentucky trailed by 15 with just over 12 minutes left in the game. The cats had a chance to win in the last possession, but James Young slipped on a drive to the basket and time expired as Florida claimed the SEC title by a final of 61-60.

Cats set to open SEC tourney tonight in Atlanta

Kentucky will open SEC tournament play tonight, taking on LSU at 7:00 pm in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. LSU advanced to the quarterfinal round with a 68-56 win over Alabama on Thursday. Kentucky enters the tournament as the number two seed behind number one seed Florida. Kentucky is expected to make the NCAA tournament field regardless of the outcome of this weeks SEC tournament. LSU would likely need to advance to the finals or win the tournament to make the NCAA field. Tipoff tonight is set for 7 pm.

Gators roll past Cats 84-65

Patric Young scored 18 points as No. 1 Florida rolled past Kentucky 84-65 on Saturday. Julius Randle led Kentucky with 16 points and 10 rebounds. With the win, Florida finished the SEC portion of the schedule with a perfect 18-0 record. The Gators improved to 29-2 overall and 18-0 in the SEC. Kentucky ended the regular season with a 22-9 overall record. The cats finished SEC play at 12-6. Kentucky will play in the quarterfinal round of the SEC tournament on Friday evening in Atlanta.

Cats hold off Tide on Senior Night at Rupp

Julius Randle finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds as No 25 Kentucky held off Alabama 55-48 on Tuesday. Kentucky used a 15-2 second half run to build a 43-34 lead. Kentucky avoided its first three game losing streak under John Calipari and also clinched the two seed in next week's SEC tournament. With the win, Kentucky improved to 22-8 overall and 12-5 in the SEC. Alabama fell to 12-18 and 6-11 in the SEC. Kentucky will wrap up the regular season on the road at number one Florida on Saturday.

Kentucky holds off LSU in OT

February 24, 2014

Julius Randle's shot in the lane with :03 left in overtime lifted Kentucky over LSU on Saturday in Rupp Arena. The number 15 Cats defeated the Tigers 77-76. Aaron Harrison led Kentucky with 21 points. James Young added 20 in the win. Anthony Hickey led LSU with 20 points. With the win Kentucky improved to 21-6 overall and 11-3 in the SEC. LSU fell to 16-10 and 7-7 in the SEC.

UK knocks off Ole Miss 84-70

Julius Randle had 25 points and 13 rebounds as Kentucky went on the road and defeated Ole Miss on Tuesday. Aaron Harrison added 17 points as Kentucky improved to 20-6 overall and 10-3 in the SEC. The cats went on a 15-0 run midway through the first half. Jarvis Summers led Ole Miss with 22 points., The Rebels fell to 16-10 overall and 7-6 in the SEC.

Gators defeat Cats in Rupp 69-59

Florida tied a school record with their 17th straight win on Saturday, knocking off Kentucky in Rupp Arena 69-59. Casey Prather led Florida with 24 points on 8 of 9 shooting. Andrew Harrison led the cats with 20 points. Florida won at Rupp Arena for the first time since 2007. Scottie Wilbekin added 23 points for Florida as the Gators improved to 23-2 overall and 12-0 in the SEC. Kentucky fell to 19-6 overall and 9-3 in the SEC.
