Kurt Busch Wins 2nd Rain Delayed Event of the Season at Michigan

Nascar’s new “Rain Man” is living up to his reputation. For the second time this season, Kurt Busch drove the #41 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet to Victory Lane after being out front when the rains came. Busch won his first race this season on a rain shortened event at Richmond, and did it again yesterday at Michigan International Speedway. Rain was a frequent visitor to the Irish Hills throughout the day. The event was red flagged four different times as rain would come and then go. The new Air Titan, developed in 2014 to help dry tracks quicker, was put to the test but couldn’t get the track dry after the final rain shower hit the track. On lap 138 of the scheduled 200, the rains came and Nascar knew it was time to call it day. Kyle Larson, still searching for his first ever win, tried to stay out front but had to pit for fuel, handing the lead over to Busch. Larson pitted on lap 133. Busch won in a back-up car after an accident in Friday’s practice made his first car unable to run. Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished 2nd, followed by last week’s winner Martin Truex Jr., Matt Kenseth, and Joey Logano. Pole sitter Kasey Kahne finished 15th, with team mates Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon finishing 19th and 21st. Kevin Harvick again led the most laps but a valve stem problem left him with a disappointing 29th place finish. The series will head out west next for the first of two road course events. The Toyota-Save Mart 350 will get underway at Sonoma Raceway on June 28th at 3:00pm ET.
