Golden State Warriors Are the 2014-15 NBA World Champions

The NBA Finals and season are now over as the Golden State Warriors are the 2014-15 NBA World Champions. Regular season MVP Stephen Curry and Finals MVP Andre Iguodala combined for 50 points as the Warriors put away the Cleveland Cavaliers, 105-97 in Game 6 of the Finals. The Championship capped off a magical season for the Bay Area team as it was Coach Steve Kerr’s first ever season as Head Coach. The team won 67 games in the regular season. It is Golden State’s first championship since 1975. The last time the team visited the White House, Gerald Ford greeted them as President. Meanwhile for Cleveland, the city’s championship drought continues. The city’s three professional teams (Cavs, Browns, and Indians) have a combined 144 seasons without a championship. When Lebron James came back after his hiatus in Miami, many tabbed them as the championship favorite. While they fell one series short of that, injuries hurt the team in the playoffs. Kevin Love, who also came to Cleveland this season, had a season ending injury early in the playoff run, and Kyrie Irving sustained a season ending injury later on. That left Lebron James carrying a lot of the load for the team. James himself fell to 2-4 in the NBA Finals. As the offseason is officially underway, many in Cleveland are skeptical of Love even returning next season as he will be a free agent. Many believe the Los Angeles native to be the top free agent pick the Los Angeles Lakers will look to get in the free agency period this summer.
