Suspect in police shooting has been taken into custody

An Eastern Kentucky Community woke up this morning to a police stand-off. Last night officers from the Prestonsburg City Police force pursued a vehicle driven by 28 year old Robert Powers of Auxier to a home on Abbott Creek. According to a statement by the Kentucky State Police Powers was confronted by officers when he exited the vehicle, and refused to surrender. One of the officers used a taser to subdue Powers, but it was ineffective. Powers drew a weapon and shot Officer Adam Dixon in the chest. Officers returned fire and Powers barricaded himself inside of the residence. Troopers from Post 9, along with Kentucky State Police Special Response Team (SRT), responded to the residence.  SRT Troopers were able to arrest Powers; he was then transported to Highland Regional Medical center with non-life threatening injuries. Officer Dixon was airlifted to Saint Mary’s in Huntington, where staff say he is in stable condition. Powers is facing attempted murder of a police officer charges.
