Kentucky Mist takes UK to court

In a turn of events, a local distiller is taking their legal battle to Lexington. Kentucky Mist is a small craft moonshine distillery in Letcher County, which received legal notice from the University of Kentucky, that it was violating their trademarked logo. The small company filed suit yesterday at the U.S. district court in Pikeville over the use of the word ‘Kentucky’, and now the case has been reassigned to Lexington. Jay Blanton is a spokesman for UK and he says the school registered the word “Kentucky” for clothing in 1997. According to the suit “Kentucky is a geographical location and has been in use since at least 1792”.
