Alpha Natural Resources has plans to pink slip another 230 miners in the West Virginia operations. Alpha is currently in the middle of bankruptcy proceedings, after filing in August. This new group of layoffs brings the job loss to well over 1-thousand miners since January. When pressed on the cause of the layoffs representatives from Alpha blamed market conditions and the reduced demand for coal.
