KSP Releases Details of Fatal Knott County Shooting

Kentucky State Police have released details from an shooting in Knott County On Wednesday, November 1, 2017, that lead to a fatality. Trooper Leo Slone and Knott County Deputy Robbie Slone were attempting to serve an arrest warrant at a residence on Hemp Patch Road in Pippa Passes. While at the residence, officers encountered 28-year-old Christopher Jacobs, who had pending arrest warrants. After attempted negotiations to get the subject to come out from under the mobile home, he suddenly exited, leading to a pursuit on foot. Jacobs got into a car in the driveway, which lead to a physical altercation where detainment was unsuccessful. Deputy Slone was inside the vehicle as Jacobs crashed into a cruiser. He accelerated toward Trooper Slone, who fired his issued duty weapon, striking Jacobs, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers were not injured and both were placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure during a deadly force incident.
