Kentucky has Second Highest Child Abuse Rate in Nation

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and the latest figures on abuse in Kentucky are out. According to the latest child maltreatment report, Kentucky has the second highest abuse rate in the nation. But, the number of deaths has declined slightly. Doctor Erin Frazier, Medical Director for Norton Children’s Prevention and Wellness, says that means people are reporting suspected abuse before escalates. She says everyone must be aware to protect our children. Frazier says to watch for signs of abuse, like bruising anywhere on a non-crawling infant or on the torso, neck or ears for those under four. Suspected abuse can be reported anonymously by calling 1-877-KY-SAFE-1.
