South Carolina Man Charged with Threatening Shooting at Harlan Graduation

On Monday, May 14, 2018, Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan received a call from Principal Britt Lawson after he became aware of a threat made toward the Harlan High School graduation on May 19, 2018. A student had received a text from a male individual in South Carolina stating he would come to the graduation and shoot everyone. The student had known the individual for about five years. An investigation determined the text came from a man identified as 34-year-old Felix Martinez of Columbia, South Carolina. On Wednesday, May 16, 2018, a fugitive task force in Columbia, SC arrested Martinez. He was charged with terroristic threatening and is awaiting extradition to Harlan County.
