House Democratic Leader Adkins Files Legislation to Restore Kentucky OSHS Board

House Democratic Leader Rocky Adkins has filed legislation to re-affirm the Kentucky Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board and increase the number of meetings it holds annually. The board was disbanded by Governor Matt Bevin last summer, with the board’s authority transferred to the secretary of the Labor Cabinet. The legislation would re-affirm the board as the General Assembly created it in the early 1970s, with the Labor Cabinet secretary serving alongside 12 other members drawn from industry, farm, and safety groups. The 12 members would serve four-year terms. Leader Adkins said this move would reinforce the checks-and-balances built into our constitution while having the board also meet quarterly, rather than annually.
