KY County Unemployment Numbers Released

Unemployment rates rose in 18 Kentucky counties, fell in 91 and remained the same in 11 counties in September, that according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics, an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development. Fayette, Oldham and Woodford counties tied for the lowest jobless rate in the Commonwealth at 2.8 percent each. Harlan County recorded the state’s highest unemployment rate at 11.9 percent. Throughout the region, Floyd County reported 5.8 percent, Johnson County had 6.0 percent, Lawrence County 6.6 percent, Letcher County 7.7 percent, Magoffin County 11.3 percent, Martin County 6.5 percent and Pike County reported 5.0 percent unemployment in September. All counties in the region reported decreased unemployment from August. The unemployment rate for the state was 3.9 percent for September and 3.3 percent for the nation.
