Union College student quarantined at Barbourville, Ky. hospital due to unknown illness

An athlete at Union College, a private college in Barbourville, Kentucky, has been hospitalized and quarantined, reportedly for a hemorrhagic fever.

Barbourville ARH issued the quarantine shortly after the student came in for a physical.

He had not left the country over winter break, but he did have family members visit him from overseas.

Staff members who treated the patient are being monitored but the hospital and the college have addressed that they do not believe there is any chance for exposure or spreading of the illness.

The emergency room at the hospital is still operating normally.

Testing to determine the nature of the illness is underway.
