COVID-19 Update from Thursday

As of Thursday’s news conference with Governor Andy Beshear. Kentucky is reporting at least 135 new cases of COVID-19 and 10 new COVID-19 related deaths. This brings Kentucky’s confirmed total to at least 8,286 Kentuckians who have contracted the virus. The death toll is now at 386. Reportedly 3,008 people have recovered. 166,240 Kentuckians have been tested for the novel coronavirus.

Governor Andy Beshear announced that a portion of childcare can now open June 8, with the rest on June 15.

Health Cabinet Secretary Friedlander says child care in homes 10-or-fewer may resume on June 8. Other, larger daycares can reopen on June 15.

Children should be limited to groups of ten. Separate groups must have the same staff member assigned to them and the groups may not be combined.

All adults must wear a face mask while in any child care setting.

Children who are above the age of 5 should wear a mask if they are able.

Sec. Friedlander also announced additional benefits for the parents of children who receive free or reduced lunch at school.

Federal assistance of $313.50 is also available. For most qualifying families, those funds will be added automatically to EBT cards. To apply, you can call 1-855-306-8959.
