COVID-19 Update as of Tuesday, January 5th

During his 4 p.m. update on Tuesday, Jan. 5, Gov. Beshear reported 1,781 new cases of COVID-19. This bring’s Kentucky’s total cases to 280,836, with 225,611 of those cases being lab confirmed and 55,225 are probable.

Twenty-three new deaths were reported on Tuesday. This makes a total of 2,722 Kentuckians lost to the virus; though 194 of those are probable and only 2,578 are lab confirmed.

A total of 3,519,209 COVID-19 test have been administered in Kentucky. 3,234,501 were PCR Test, 102,678 were serology test, and 182,030 were antigen test. The positivity rate currently stands at 11.4%.

Currently 1,760 Kentuckians are hospitalized due COVID-19 related symptoms. With 430 in the ICU and 215 on a ventilator.

Top counties with the most positive cases Tuesday were: Jefferson, Fayette, Warren and Kenton. Each of these counties reported 60 or more new cases; Jefferson County alone reported 314.

On a positive note, at least 37,502 Kentuckians have recovered from the virus.
