Joey E. Hatfield, 53, of Hardy, KY, passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, April 30, 2021. Joey was born to Linda (Hatfield) Blackburn and the late James Emzy Hatfield in Williamson, WV, on April, 20, 1968, (the day before his beloved Mom’s birthday—what a gift!) He graduated from Belfry High School in 1986, and after attending college, pursued a career in truck driving as owner/operator of his own company, and also in management in the coal/heavy equipment industry. From his early childhood, Joey was intrigued with anything mechanical or motorized — whether it was a (matchbox or a full size) car, a pick up truck, a motorcycle (and of course it had to be a Harley), or a big rig–he could take one look at it and tell you all about it! All who knew him, will remember how he loved pulling practical jokes on others. It was one of the ways you knew he loved you. Joey was devastated by the loss of his father, James, and became completely dedicated to his mother, Linda, and in his later years to his step-dad, Jack.

Besides his affection for his mom, he surely loved his children, grandson, cousins, aunt and uncle and his best friends, Lew Smith; and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. Joey is survived by his mother, Linda Blackburn; his children Alexis Camille, Ashley Sinclair, Josefina Marie and Jesse James; his aunt, Tammy Swafford; uncle, Brian Burgett; his cousins, Sherri (Brad) Mounts, Rocky (Delinda) and Taylor Pinson, and his dogs Max and Maggie.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Monday May 3, 2021, at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Minister Bob Werntz of the Sharondale Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at the Hatfield Family Cemetery, Hardy, KY, with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6 – 9 PM Sunday night at the funeral home with special singing at 7 PM. R. E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, KY, will be serving the Hatfield family.
