A man out of Paintsville is now in jail after police say he threatened firefighters who were attempting to extinguish a fire.

The incident took place this past Tuesday evening along Mill Street, near the residence of 39-year-old David Stambaugh.

Firefighters were working to put out a small brush fire, which broke out after Stambaugh said he had tossed a lit cigarette out of his window.

According to police, Stambaugh both threatened and cursed at firefighters while they were attempting to do their job.

He was arrested and charged with obstructing governmental operations, public intoxication, criminal mischief, and terroristic threatening.
