A woman out of Floyd County was arrested following her 3-year-old being treated for an overdose.

Officers with the Pikeville Police Department were dispatched to Pikeville Medical Center this past Sunday afternoon after 24-year-old Miranda Garrett, of Martin, brought her child in. The child was said to have been throwing up and nodding off.

According to court records, the child tested positive for suboxone and had been given Narcan in an effort to combat the overdose.

Garrett first tried to pin the blame on her husband, claiming she saw the child going through one of his bags. However, upon learning what her child had ingested, she allegedly told police that it was her fault and that no one else was to blame.

Garrett has been charged with first-degree child abuse and first-degree wanton endangerment. She currently remains in the Pike County Detention Center.
