Buchanan County Law Enforcement Warn People of Phone Scam

Law enforcement in Buchanan County are informing people of a phone scam where the caller claims they are with Appalachian Power.

The Buchanan County Sheriff’s office announced on Facebook that they have received numerous reports of people getting suspicious phone calls that are supposedly from Appalachian Power. The scammers tell the potential victim that they have an outstanding bill and if they don’t pay immediately then their power will be shut off.

Its’ reported that the scammers will leave a number for the customer to call to pay a bill to prevent their power from being cut off.

Deputies warn people to use caution with any calls that seem suspicious. They also encourage people to inform their loved ones of the scam so they do not become victims.
