A body was discovered in the backseat of a car that was involved in a chase along I-75.

The driver of the car, 54-year-old David Maurice Reed, of St. Petersburg, Florida, was arrested following the chase.

The chase began on Wednesday morning, in Madison County. Troopers initially approached the driver, who is said to have quickly sped off, leading law enforcement on a chase through Madison, Rockcastle, and Laurel Counties.

Reed is said to have collided with several Kentucky State Police vehicles while attempting to escape from police.

According to officials with the Kentucky State Police, the body of 53-year-old Rachel Louise Carter, of Huntington, is said to have been found in the backseat of the car, following the chase. Foul play is suspected and the body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office, in Frankfort, for an autopsy. Police say they are still investigating where Carter was killed.

Reed was arrested and charged with murder-domestic violence, tampering with physical evidence, abuse of a corpse, fleeing or evading police, criminal mischief, wanton endangerment of a police officer, careless driving, resisting arrest, and no operator’s license.
