Letcher County, Ky – A Letcher County man is facing 25 years in prison for killing his nephew. A jury in Letcher Circuit Court on Wednesday found Rodney Webb guilty of first-degree manslaughter and of being a persistent felony offender in the shooting death of his nephew, Nicholas Webb. A state medical examiner testified the bullet severed Nicholas’s femoral artery and that the distance between the two men at the time of the shooting could not be determined, while noting non-alarming levels of prescription painkillers in Nicholas’s system. After about an hour and a half of deliberations, jurors recommended a combined 25-year sentence. Nicholas’s family said the verdict was what they had hoped for after a long wait for justice, and the Commonwealth’s Attorney said Webb must serve the entire sentence with no parole.

Lawrence County, Ky – A Lawrence County man is facing multiple wanton endangerment charges after deputies say he pointed a shotgun at two homes while in a drug‑induced psychotic state. Deputies were called Saturday evening to the Left Fork of Little Blaine Creek, where video reportedly showed 26‑year‑old Scott Anthony Hayes of Louisa getting out of his truck with a shotgun, waving it toward his wife’s home and moving erratically, with three people inside. They say he then pointed the gun at his mother‑in‑law’s house and made an obscene gesture. His wife told deputies Hayes uses meth, and she believed he was experiencing psychosis. He was later arrested at a Louisa gas station on three counts of wanton endangerment, and deputies say they found the shotgun inside his truck.
