Prestonsburg, Ky – A Floyd County woman has been arrested after a vehicle–pedestrian collision in Prestonsburg that left the pedestrian with life‑threatening injuries. State Police say 55‑year‑old Julia Vanderpool of South Circle Drive is charged with first‑degree assault and first‑offense DUI after the crash on Ky. 1428 around 12:45 p.m. on May 30. Troopers say the pedestrian was flown to a nearby hospital, and Vanderpool, identified as the driver, showed signs of impairment at the scene, including bloodshot eyes, drooping eyelids and slowed reflexes. She reportedly told police she had taken prescribed Neurontin and Xanax, performed field sobriety tests, and was then taken for a blood draw before being lodged in the Floyd County Detention Center.

Prestonsburg, Ky – A Prestonsburg man faces a first-degree assault charge after another man was stabbed multiple times Monday, according to Kentucky State Police. Troopers say 58-year-old Eddie Dmitruk is charged with first-degree assault. The victim suffered several stab wounds to the chest and arm; his condition has not been released. The incident happened at a home on Right Fork Branch Road in Prestonsburg in Floyd County. Dmitruk was taken to the Floyd County Detention Center, police said.

Pikeville, Ky – The family of Amber Spradlin is supporting a move to end house arrest for one of the men charged in connection with her death. Court records say the Pike Commonwealth’s Attorney consulted the family about releasing Michael McKinney II from home incarceration, and they agreed so he would not receive jail credit toward any possible future prison sentence. Prosecutors now say they do not oppose lifting his house arrest and will defer to the judge on any other conditions. McKinney, charged with evidence tampering, is set for trial next year with two other defendants.

Knott County, Ky – Human remains were found Monday morning in Knott County during a search along Big Branch Road in Amburgey. Kentucky State Police say the remains were discovered before 10 a.m. in the 2000 block of Big Branch Road. The Knott County coroner responded and pronounced the individual dead. The remains have been taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort for autopsy and identification. KSP says volunteers and K-9 handlers from Indiana K-9 United helped with the search.
