Frankfort, Ky – A federal court has dismissed a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Department of Justice against Kentucky over the state’s voter registration records. The DOJ sued after Secretary of State Michael Adams refused to provide Kentucky’s voter rolls, saying the records could expose private information, including names, addresses, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers and partial Social Security numbers. Adams says the ruling shows Kentucky’s elections are secure, and voters’ personal information remains protected.
Prestonsburg, Ky – A Prestonsburg man has been arrested on a charge of trafficking methamphetamine. According to a Floyd County Sheriff’s Office citation, Deputy David Pennington stopped a vehicle on Long Fork Road after seeing it fail to use a turn signal. The citation says passenger Christopher R. Henry appeared nervous and was reaching around inside the vehicle. During a search, deputies allegedly found a bag containing three-point-five ounces of suspected methamphetamine. Henry reportedly told deputies he was there to sell the drugs. The 39-year-old was lodged in the Floyd County Detention Center.
Boyd County, Ky – A 55-year-old man is dead following an e-bike collision with a pedestrian in Boyd County. According to Boyd County Coroner Mark Hammond, the crash happened around 10:36 Thursday night near U.S. 60 and Marsh Hill Drive in the Cannonsburg area. The man was reportedly riding an e-bike along the shoulder when he struck a pedestrian and was thrown from the bicycle. He was not wearing a helmet. He was taken to UK King’s Daughters, where he was pronounced dead. The pedestrian was also hospitalized. The crash remains under investigation.
Prestonsburg, Ky – SOAR and the Kentucky Community and Technical College System are launching a new workforce training program to prepare Eastern Kentuckians for careers in the nuclear energy industry. The 16-week program will be offered through six community and technical colleges, including Big Sandy Community and Technical College. Training will include safety, mechanical and electrical systems, blueprint reading and automation. The program is supported by the GitLab Foundation and the Kentucky Nuclear Energy Development Authority.
