Pikeville, Ky – Kentucky State Police are investigating a fatal ATV crash in Pike County. KSP says the crash happened just after 5:40 Thursday evening on an ATV trail off Booker Fork in Pikeville. Investigators say 74-year-old Billy Tackett of Pikeville was riding an ATV when it left the trail and overturned. Tackett was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pike County Coroner’s Office. The crash remains under investigation.

 

Floyd County, Ky – Kentucky State Police are investigating a fatal crash in Floyd County. KSP says the single-vehicle crash happened just after 1:50 Saturday afternoon on Kentucky Route 680 in the Eastern community. Investigators say 48-year-old Christopher Smith of McDowell was driving southbound when his vehicle left the roadway and overturned. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by the Floyd County Coroner’s Office. The crash remains under investigation.

 

Boyd County, Ky – A Boyd County woman initially charged with three counts of attempted murder has pleaded guilty to lesser charges. Forty-six-year-old Corina Kouns pleaded guilty Thursday to third-degree arson and three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment. Prosecutors say the charges were amended because there was no evidence Kouns intended to kill the victims. A defense attorney said the fire spread to an adjacent building, and no one was injured. Kouns was sentenced to 10 years in prison and must have no contact with the victims.

 

Hazard, Ky – A Hazard man is facing drug trafficking charges following a search of his residence. According to a citation, Hazard Police served a search warrant August 18 at the Gurneys Bend home of 37-year-old David Coffield. Police say they found three vials of suspected fentanyl and three bags containing suspected methamphetamine, weighing more than two grams. The citation says Coffield admitted to selling the suspected illegal substances. He was lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail on charges of trafficking in methamphetamine and fentanyl.
