Perry County, Ky – A robbery suspect is in custody following a Friday morning crime spree across Perry County. Hazard police first responded to a robbery at the East Main Street Shell Mart around 6 a.m., obtaining a description of the suspect and his getaway vehicle. Moments later, county deputies responded to a second robbery at the Jeff Mart involving the same vehicle. Law enforcement quickly tracked the car to Ramey’s on Highway 7 and arrested Dustin Burkhead of Vicco. Burkhead faces charges including first-degree robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is currently booked into the Kentucky River Regional Jail.
Prestonsburg, Ky – A federal grand jury in London has indicted a Prestonsburg man following a multi-agency child pornography investigation. Thirty-one-year-old Jimmy Ray Brown was originally arrested last month after the FBI, Kentucky State Police, and local officers raided his apartment at Cliffside Apartments. Federal agents say an internet connection linked to his account was used to download and share illicit files over eighteen-hundred times. If convicted on the federal charge, Brown faces up to 20 years in prison. He is currently being held without bond in the Laurel County Jail.
Martin County, Ky – An Illinois woman is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly trying to smuggle drugs into USP Big Sandy in Martin County. Kentucky State Police responded on Sunday after prison staff spotted Alicia Johnson on surveillance cameras concealing a hair bow under a paper plate and handing it to an inmate. Correctional officers quickly intervened and recovered 14 paper bindles containing amphetamines. Johnson was arrested and charged with promoting prison contraband and drug trafficking.
Johnson County, Ky – One person is in the hospital following a single-vehicle rollover crash Monday afternoon in Johnson County. Emergency crews responded to U.S. 23 near Brown’s Fork after 3 p.m., where firefighters found a car overturned in a creek with the driver trapped inside. Rescuers used hydraulic tools to cut open the doors and pull the driver from the vehicle. The victim was then airlifted to a regional hospital. No update on his condition has been released.
