Magoffin County Farm Nominated for National Register of Historic Places

In Magoffin County, a 100 plus acre farm has been selected for the National Register of Historic Places. The Gardner Farmstead in Salyersville has been home to the Gardner family for six generations and is currently inhabited by 81 year old Ben Gardner and his wife. Gardner said at one time the farm had 10,000 acres but is now down to about 150. Work still continues on the farm that used to produce tobacco, corn, hay, and cattle. In the civil war, the farm was used as a safety house for soldiers on both sides of the war. The nomination must now be approved by the National Park Service.
