Karl Anthony Towns Goes #1 in The 2015 NBA Draft

As expected, former UK star Karl Anthony Towns was selected as the #1 overall pick in last night’s NBA Draft, going to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Towns joins John Wall and Anthony Davis as three of the last six #1 overall picks to come from the University of Kentucky. In what some considered surprising, the Los Angeles Lakers passed on Duke’s Jahil Okafor, selecting Ohio State guard and Louisville native D’Angelo Russell with the #2 pick. Okafor went third to the Philadelphia 76ers. As for the rest of the Commonwealth players selected, UK’s Willie Cauley-Stein was selected 6th by the Sacramento Kings. The Utah Jazz selected Kentucky power forward Trey Lyles with the 12th pick, and UK point guard Devin Booker followed as the Phoenix Suns selection with the 13th pick. The Boston Celtics selected Louisville point guard Terry Rozier with the 16th pick. Louisville power forward Montrezl Harrell went 32nd to the Houston Rockets, while Kentucky point guard Andrew Harrison went 44th to the Phoenix Suns. Kentucky Center Dakari Johnson was selected 48th by Oklahoma City.
