Push-ups for dropped passes

Kentucky’s receivers are doing push-ups for every dropped pass in practice. Sophomore Garrett Johnson started the practice of 20 push-ups for every drop.

“Anytime we drop a pass, like whoever it is.” said Johnson. “I’ll chase them down and make sure we get these 20 push-ups in. So all of us just make sure we stay on each other and you know, just keep that competitive edge. Just make sure all of us as a whole are getting better.”

Coach Mark Stoops needs his younger receivers to step up this fall. Push-ups for drops is nothing new to him as a coach.

“I’ve noticed them doing it.” said Stoops. “I wasn’t exactly sure what they were doing but that’s fine. I did the same thing way back when I was DB coach at Miami. Back then they started dropping, doing push-ups on the field during games. We had to stop that. But it’s anything, just a good reminder more than anything, concentrate and finish.

Kentucky is loaded with young talented receivers and Johnson is one of them. He led UK’s freshman receivers last season with 22 catches for 271 yards. One year later he’s much more comfortable on the field.

“I just feel like myself now.” said Johnson. “When I was in high school, me just talking. Not about anything, just talking, rapping, just me being myself. I feel like I finally got back to him.”
