Over the past few years Soccer has grown in popularity throughout the region, spreading from recreational teams to school teams. Prestonsburg High Schools assistant coach, Drew Connor works with his wife and head coach Emily, toward building the schools soccer program. According to Connor the sport has been evolving since they took over the team in 2012, not just who plays but how they interact with the sport. Just in the time that Connor and has been with the team he said that he has seen a remarkable growth. Connor believes that the best thing for his players would be for some more local schools to form teams, not only to foster competition but to cut down travel expenses. Connor remains hopeful that the consolidation of Floyd central and sparked interest in Betsy Layne will bring a change. The Black Cat soccer team is currently 5 and 5, and hopes to make their first regional appearance this season.
