Rape Kits in the Bluegrass will give justice, however they could also cost the Bluegrass millions

A Kentucky official says that the backup in the state’s crime lab is unacceptable. State Auditor, Adam Edelen, addressed the 3,100 untested rape kits dispersed across the Bluegrass. The kits have vital evidence, which could bring rapists to justice, and give closure to a victim. According to Edelen’s 90 page reports, the problem is systemic as state law does not require police to submit the kits for testing, and 61 percent of hospital emergency rooms report that they do not have the staff trained to examine victims. Edelen believes that testing all of the kits could cost the Bluegrass 5 to 7 million dollars over a two year span.
