Controversy continues to ensue over a painting in the Breathitt County Courthouse

A group of supporters from around the state flocked to Jackson to support keeping the painting, which the activist group “Freedom from Religion” has pegged as a violation of the separation of church and state. Supporters of the painting portray this as a war on religion, and say that they feel they are defending the Christian values of the nation. A statement from the Co-President of Freedom from Religion, Annie Gaylor, said that the painting violated the separation of church and state. According to county Judge Executive John Smith, there are no plans to remove the painting at this time.
