There have been efforts to create homeless shelters before in Prestonsburg, last august the Saint James Episcopal church opened a multi-bed shelter which closed due to lack of funding. Now a group of locals are working towards creating a standalone shelter, which would not be dependent on a religious or government body to maintain its funding. The group has been approached by many in the community who are anxious to help, and are still working on a strategy. They will have an open meeting on October the 19^th at the St. James Episcopal Church at 7pm, and are encouraging the public to come out and help with the planning.
