A Breathitt County community is welcoming back its own fire department. The Watts Volunteer Fire Department has been closed for 6 months, but the community is working towards changing that with the help of volunteers and a donation from the fiscal court. Fire Chief Tim Osborne hopes to have the department responding to calls by November 1^st. The community decided to invest in the firehouse due to slow response times from surrounding departments, and the increase in insurance premiums. There will be a community meeting on the 24^th at 10 am, where they will be accepting applications for potential fire fighters.
