A Perry County man accused of shooting his roommate insists that the whole thing was an accident. 53 year old Terry Newman of Maces Creek has been charged with attempted murder, after he shot his roommate, Chastity Minard, in the arm with a 9 millimeter pistol. According to witnesses Newman threatened a man outside of the home, then produced a pistol and began firing. In an interview with WYMT-TV Newman claimed that he was trying to get the gun out of reach of the person he was arguing with, when it went off and struck Minard. Another witness to the event said they did not believe that Newman intended to hit Minard, who was airlifted to UK with non-life threatening injuries.
