A proposed expansion by an Eastern Kentucky town has some citizens nervous. Earlier this month Paintsville’s city council signed off on a plan to annex the Hager Hill community. This plan has been met with some opposition, especially from local businesses who do not like the idea of paying Paintsville taxes. The areas the city intends to annex include properties along US 23, and state routes 321 and 1428. To oppose these annexation citizens would need to gather the signatures of at least 50 percent of the property owners and registered voters. There are also plans to incorporate Jenny’s Creek into city limits.
