Officer Ross Shurtleff testified to the incident that escaladed into Officer Adam Dixon being shot. According to Shurtleff, Dixon knew the defendant, Robert Powers, had a gun and the two tried to defuse the situation. After a tazer failed to take him down Shurtleff claims Powers grabbed the gun and opened fire. The two officers returned fire, but Dixon was struck in the chest. Powers has already been indicted on first degree assault, but the police filed additional charges yesterday including wonton endangerment, fleeing police, and driving under the influence.
