PMC brings new technology into surgery

Pikeville Medical Center announces new robotic surgery program. In a press release PMC revealed their purchase of a new da Vinci Xi surgical system, which can be used for minimally invasive surgery. The machine itself includes four arms, which can be customized to use any surgical tool the case requires and it operated by a surgeon from a control board. Dustin Gayheart is an Urologist on staff at PMC, and he says the machine allows the surgeon to have enhanced vision, precision and control during complex procedures. In the press release PMC also said that the robotic surgery could also offer shorter hospital stays, reduced blood loss and scarring, and faster recovery.
