This year some people chose to avoid the Black Friday rush for a more natural experience. The camping and hiking store REI co-op pushed the “optoutside” or “optout” movement to encouraged people to skip the mall and go experience nature. Three local men decided to join the groups, shunning the sales rush. Chris Walker, Michael Warrix, and Casey Price decided to join the movement and spend Friday hiking the Jenny Wiley Trail. According to Warrix he opted out of going to the store, because he didn’t want to be one of the “Black Friday” shoppers. Walker masterminded the hike, and according to him the hike was more about burning off the Thanksgiving calories and enjoying the outside.
