The deal acquired over 32-thousand acres of land in Logan, Mingo and Lincoln counties in West Virginia. The land was purchased by the Conservation fund, which is a Virginia based non-profit, using money from the federal excise tax and grants. Officials plan to acquire elk for the program from Kentucky, which has seen its elk population boom since it initiated its own program.
