A local legislator has introduces a new minimum wage bill

House Speaker Greg Stumbo, who is a Democrat from Prestonsburg, is pushing legislation to raise the state’s minimum wage to ten dollars and ten cents an hour by 2018. This would be the first increase in the Commonwealth since 2009 when the minimum wage was set at the current seven dollars and twenty five cents an hour. The bill also has a statute designed to help small businesses. Currently businesses making under 95-thousand in gross sales are exempt from the minimum wage, this bill would increase that to 500-thousand.
